ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Junior Kylee Kato (Kahului, Hawaii) and freshman Jasmin Starr (Templestowe, Victoria, Australia) earned a pair of wins to lead UTSA women's tennis to a 5-2 win over Abilene Christian, on Saturday afternoon at the Estes Tennis Center on the campus of the University of New Mexico.
Starr won her singles match in the No. 1 spot, 6-3, 7-5, and teamed with Kato for a 6-3 doubles victory in the lead role. Kato also posted a 6-4, 6-2 win in singles.
Graduate studentMariah Plauth (Florianopolis, Brazil) earned a win in the second spot, 5-6, 7-6 (10), 10-6 and had her doubles match, with junior Laura Cabrera (Barcelona, Spain), even at 2-2 when the Runners clinched the point. Cabrera posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in singles.
Senior Charleen Tiwari (Perth, Australia) and freshman Sophie Omoworare (Plano, Texas) posted a doubles win, 6-2.
UTSA will face the host Lobos at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.
