Prince wins fifth 110m hurdles title at Bobcat Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the fifth time this season Patrick Prince won the men's 110m hurdles, which was UTSA's track & field's top individual effort on Saturday at the Bobcat Classic. In addition to Pince's win, both the men's and women's 4x400m relays captured event wins.
 
Throws
Freshman Lacee Barnes placed third in the women's discus after a best throw of 47.67m on her opening attempt of the day. Maia Campbell placed 11th in the event after heave of 39.58m and N'Dia Warren-Jacques 12th with a distance of 35.73m.
 
Kelsey Benoit finished second in the men's discus with a final distance of 51.66m. Derek Fenton placed fifth with a throw of 49.13m, followed by Vincent Perez (46.03m / 8th) and Mike Zuniga (38.12m / 13th).
 
In the women's shot put, Warren-Jacques paced five Roadrunners with her fourth-place effort after a toss of 13.83m. Campbell placed fifth with a put of 13.73m. Barnes placed eighth with a 12.64m effort, Cynthia Gonzales (12.51m) was 10th and Brenttany Birdow (11.51m).
 
Benoit also took second in the men's shot put with a distance of 16.60m on his second time in the ring. He was followed by Fenton in third with a best throw of 15.91m and Zuniga in eighth after a distance of 14.68m.
 
Sprints
Prince, a junior, won his fifth event title of the season with his victory in the 110m hurdles after crossing the line 14.04. Justin Gerbrecht placed third with a time of 14.60.
 
Jamiah Jackson came away second in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.88, while Victoria Rausch clocked a personal-record 14.16 to place fourth.
 
Jennifer Arinze clocked a 55.86 in the women's 400m to place fourth, while Chris Rosales crossed in 50.23 in the men's 400m and Kaleb Campbell ran a collegiate personal-best 53.32 to place 14th.
 
Seven Roadrunners competed in the 400m hurdles. Gerbrecht placed fourth in the men's event with a time of 54.94. Jonathan Boozer placed eighth in 55.32, followed by Ricardo Ramos in ninth with a 55.56 and Devall Harris in 11th with a 57.44. Christy Gilbert took bronze in the women's edition with a time of 1:01.17. She was followed across the line by Sierra Andres in sixth (1:03.67) and Rachael Grossman in ninth (1:04.59).
 
Mid-distance
Rian Rodriguez placed 18th in the women's 1,500m run with a personal-best time of 5:00.75. Sarah Estrada completed the event in 5:18.57 to cross the line in 22nd. Marcus Guajardo came home 15th in the men's event with a time of 4:09.65.
 
In the men's 800m run, Luca Chatham stopped the clock in 1:51.38 to place second. Zack Kovar ran a 1:53.87 to place fifth, Caleb Devereaux ran a PR of 1:54.59 to place sixth and Skye Knight a 1:58.25 to earn ninth. Lynette Amaram ran a personal-best 2:12.34 in the women's 800m to place third. Colleen Gilbert clocked a 2:17.63 to place fifth and Jayela Slack a 2:19.98 to place eighth.
 
Relays
The women's 4x400m relay of Darionne Gibson, Jackson, Andres and Arinze clocked a 3:41.83 to win the six-team event. The UTSA group of Co. Gilbert, Amaram, Slack and Rodriguez ran a 3:57.91 to place sixth.
 
The UTSA men's quartet of Vasha Sheriff, Andrew Pirog, Byron Taylor and Austin Crocker also won the men's 1,600m relay with a time of 3:10.15. The grouping of Johnathan Boozer, Chatham, Devereaux and Kovar placed fifth after running a 3:23.01.
 
Up next
UTSA enters the championship portion of its schedule, starting with the 2018 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 10-13 in Houston (hosted by Rice). The NCAA West Preliminary Round is scheduled for May 24-16 in Sacramento and the NCAA Championships are June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore.
