SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport will participate in the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine this weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Davenport, the 2017 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, will begin his NFL Scouting Combine experience on Thursday when he arrives in Indianapolis for registration, orientation and the first of three days of interviews with NFL front office personnel. He then will go through measurements and medical exams on Friday, before taking part in an NFL Players Association meeting, more testing and media interviews on Saturday. Davenport also will begin the workout session with the bench press on Saturday before participating in the remaining on-field workouts, including the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, 3-cone drill and shuttle run, on Sunday.
The NFL Network will televise each day of on-field workouts on March 2-5. For more information on the Combine and how to watch it live, please visit NFL.com/combine and NFL.com/combine/live.
More than 300 of the very best college football players have been invited to participate in this year's NFL Scouting Combine. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand to evaluate the nation's top players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The four-day job interview is a vital step, as the athletes try to achieve their dreams of playing at the next level. A complete list of 2018 NFL Scouting Combine invitees can be found at NFL.com.
Davenport will become the second Roadrunner to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, joining former All-America tight end David Morgan II, who became UTSA's first-ever NFL Draft pick when he was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round in 2016.
Davenport competed in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 27, registering a sack of Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield on the first series and a 19-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter to help the South defeat the North, 45-16. The three-time all-conference selection, who set UTSA career records for tackles for loss (38.0), sacks (22.0) and QB hurries (21), also was credited with an assisted tackle and one quarterback hurry in the game.
The following week, Davenport helped lead the Wildcard Team to a win at the State Farm All-Star Football Challenge in Arlington, Texas. The San Antonio Stevens High School product posted a time of 25.35 in the Mercedes-Benz Obstacle Course to help the Wildcard Team — also made up of offensive lineman Will Hernandez (UTEP), wide receiver Cedric Wilson (Boise State) and quarterback Logan Woodside (Toledo) — to victory against four-man teams from the Pac-12, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC.
