Chatham and Anderson earn wins on final day of the Houston Invitational

HOUSTON – Led by event titles by Luca Chatham and Ty Anderson in the men's mile and high jump, respectively, the UTSA track & field programs wrapped up the Houston Invitational Saturday at the Cougar's Yeoman Fieldhouse.

Chatham picked up his first event title of the season, winning the mile in a personal-best time of 4:15.92. Chatham, a junior, was followed across the line by Roadrunners Mason Riley with a 4:43.82 in ninth and Skye Knight, who stopped the clock at 4:46.44, in 11th. Colleen Gilbert came home 14th in the women's mile with a 5:26.66 and Sarah Estrada 18th in 5:33.11. Both Gilbert's and Estrada's time were personal-bests.

Anderson, the defending C-USA high-jump champion, picked up UTSA's lone field event victory of the meet with a cleared height of 2.05m (6' 8.75"). Anderson passed until 2.0m before clearing both 2.0m and the event-winning 2.05m on his first attempts. The senior then passed at 2.10m before faulting three times at 2.16m. The 2.05m height puts Anderson second on the 2018 C-USA performance list.

Also competing in the men's high jump were Chandler Iturraga and Quillan Haughton. The freshman jumpers tied for eighth overall with cleared heights of 1.90m (6' 2.75"). Both cleared 1.85m and 1.90m on their first attempts before faulting at 1.95m.

Kaleb Campbell and Jonathan Boozer finished 11th and 13th, respectively, in the 60m semifinals after advancing from Friday's preliminary round. Campbell posted a 7.06 and Boozer a personal-best 7.17.

The 60m hurdles saw Patrick Prince place fourth overall with an 8.06. Prince advanced to the finals with a preliminary heat-winning 8.04. Jonathan Boozer (13th) and Ricardo Ramos (14th) also competed in the event, clocking times of 8.80 and 8.82, respectively. Jamiah Jackson, a freshman, placed sixth overall in the women's 60m hurdles with a personal-record 8.66. She qualified for the finals with an 8.90 in preliminary round, which was the eighth fastest time.

Amber Boyd was the top UTSA finisher in the 800m, clocking a 2:20.58, to score eighth. John von Dohlen led the Roadrunners' efforts in the 3,000m with a personal-best time of 8:46.67 to place seventh in the 30-competitor field.

Maia Campbell opened the Roadrunners' day with a sixth-place showing in the shot put with a hurl of 13.30m (43' 7.75") on her second attempt of the morning. The mark is Campbell's second-best of the season and would rank 12th on C-USA performance list.
