Women's golf inks two during fall signing period

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head women's golf coach Summer Batiste announced Tuesday that Hannah Holzmann (San Antonio, Texas) and Katia Mexsen (Torreon, Mexico) signed National Letters of Intent during the fall signing period. The pair will join the Roadrunners for the 2018-19 season.

"We're very excited about our fall signees," Batiste said. "Hannah and Katia are two highly competitive players who have shown a great deal of progress throughout their junior careers, and they both have plenty of experience winning tournaments. We are thrilled to have them join our Roadrunner family and we can't wait to see them contribute to our success on and off the golf course."

Holzmann, who is home schooled, has posted numerous victories on the junior circuit. She won the Canyon Springs Junior Open in August with a 72-72—144 and the Lonestar Girls Invitational with a 72-74—146 in October. Holzmann also finished atop the leaderboard this year at the Texas Masters/IMG World Qualifier in May with a 66-71-70—207 at Brackenridge Golf Course in San Antonio to go along with a tie for sixth at the Valero Junior Texas Open in July. She has five other wins on her resume, including victories at the New Braunfels Showcase and Golf San Antonio Junior Showcase in 2016.

Mexsen was the Texas Junior Golf Tour Silverhorn Junior Championship individual medalist after firing a 76-71—147 earlier this year. She was runner-up at a 2017-18 Zona Norte tournament with a 69-75—144 and she has place in the top five on the Zona Norte regional tour every year since 2007. Mexsen played in the 2015 Mexico National Olympics and finished in the top 15 at the VI Copa Zona Centro, a Mexico National event, in 2016.
