Routsas named to Ray Guy Award watch list

AUGUSTA, Ga. — UTSA junior punter Yannis Routsas (YAHN-knee ROOT-sus) has been named to the Ray Guy Award watch list, the Augusta Sports Council announced Thursday.

Routsas is averaging 39.8 yards per punt this season and has helped the Roadrunners to a 38.0 net punt average. The Houston native has five punts of 50-or-more yards this season, including four in the last two games, and he booted a season-long 61-yarder against North Texas. Routsas has pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line on 14 of his 24 punts and has forced opponents to call for nine fair catches this fall. UTSA has allowed just three punt returns for a total of five yards, an average of 1.7 per return, which leads Conference USA and ranks 12th nationally.

The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to the college punter of the year. A final candidate list will be unveiled on Oct. 31 with semifinalists announced on Nov. 16 and three finalists named on Nov. 21. The winner will be recognized at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 7 in Atlanta, Ga.
