IRVING — After helping lead a strong defensive effort in UTSA's 25-6 victory on Saturday at UTEP, Michael Egwuagu was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The junior safety from Pflugerville scored a pair of touchdowns, first on a 40-yard interception return in the third quarter and later in the final stanza when he took a Nate Gaines lateral 15 yards following the Roadrunners' fourth pick of the night. Egwuagu also added eight tackles (six solos), as UTSA registered season highs of nine three-and-outs and five takeaways in addition to a safety two-and-a-half minutes after intermission.
The Roadrunners (1-4, 1-0 C-USA) will host Louisiana Tech (3-2, 1-1 C-USA) at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Alamodome.
