Long named Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Nikki Long was named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Long, who has a perfect 4.0 GPA as a pre-business major, received the Conference USA Academic Medal for a cumulative 3.75-or-better GPA and she also was named to the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in April.

On the course, Long registered a 76.97 stroke average and four top-20 finishes in her freshman season for the Roadrunners. She tied for fourth with a 74-71—145 at the UTSA Matchup and followed that with a 13th-place 223 (72-76-75) at the Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational a week later. The San Antonio Johnson High School product closed out her debut campaign by carding a 215 that was highlighted by a career-best 67 in the final round to tie for seventh and help UTSA to a third-place showing at the Conference USA Championship.

This marks the third consecutive year that a Roadrunner has earned the honor (Taylor Newlin, 2013-14).

A total of 758 women’s collegiate golf student-athletes were recognized as All-American Scholars by the WGCA. A minimum cumulative 3.50 GPA is required.

Long will begin play in the U.S. Women’s Open on Thursday at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. FOX Sports 1 will provide live coverage of the first and second rounds beginning at 1 p.m. (CT) on Thursday and Friday. FOX then will televise the third and fourth rounds at 1:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday and Sunday.
