Flannel, Pew victorious at Saturday's UTSA Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Whitney Flannel and Lindsey Pew both captured gold medals to lead the Roadrunners at Saturday's UTSA Invitational, which was contested at the Park West Athletics Complex.

Flannel cleared 5-8 (1.73m) to top the field of nine high jumpers. It marked her second victory of the season and fourth top-two perfomance.

Meanwhile, Pew registered a mark of 12-7 ½ (3.85m) for her second triumph of the spring in the pole vault. The junior from Mesa, Ariz., won her specialty event by a half foot to lead the field of 11.

UTSA also recorded four second-place performances, as Ernestine Cray (triple jump/40-7 ¾/12.39m), Samantha Fish (3,000m/PR 10:20.62), Stephanie Wangui (800m/PR 2:11.76) and the 1,600-meter relay of Kaila James, Evelyn Clark, Venessa Onwuchekwa and Shantel Swift (3:47.61) all earned silver medals.

Kelly Goudeau (400m/PR 56.30), Nina Herrera (800m/2:13.42) and Katelynn Homb (discus/137-4/41.87m) each placed third in their respective events for the Roadrunners.

UTSA will return to action next Saturday, April 26, at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston.
