LAKE CHARLES, La. ? Senior forward Onika Anderson posted her eighth double-double of season with game highs of 17 points and 16 rebounds and she helped lead UTSA past McNeese State, 61-50, on Saturday afternoon at Burton Coliseum in the Southland Conference opener for both teams.

Sophomore guard Amber Gregg also netted 17 points and senior forward Ryba Pawlaczyk grabbed 14 boards to along with seven points.

The Roadrunners (8-6, 1-0 SLC), who were without the services of head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair (death in the family), extended their winning streak to a season-best six games.

The Cowgirls (8-6 0-1 SLC) trailed 32-13 at the half but began the second frame on a 7-2 run to make it a 34-20 UTSA lead with 16:30 to go.  Junior guard Alysse Davis’ 3-pointer and senior guard Monica Gibbs’ three-point play gave the Roadrunners their largest lead of the game two minutes later (40-20). However, McNeese rallied over the next 10 minutes with a 30-12 run to make it a two-point game (52-50), but it would be the closest it would get, as the Roadrunners scored the final nine points of the contest to hold on for the 11-point triumph.

Shante Perry scored 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half, to lead the Cowgirls.

UTSA is back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Nicholls in its conference home opener. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
