LeRoy Hurd named to NABC All-District team

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced that UTSA senior forward LeRoy Hurd has been named to the NABC Division I All-District 9 Team, recognizing the country's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across the country. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team to be announced at the conclusion of the 2003-2004 NCAA men's basketball season.

Hurd is UTSA's first NABC selection since Devin Brown earned the honor in 2001 and 2002.  The 6-7 forward is on his way to leading the Southland Conference in scoring for the second consecutive season, averaging 19.3 points per game.  Hurd, a native of Moss Point, Miss., was a preseason first team selection in the SLC, after leading the conference in scoring last year at 17.6 points per game.  He has 10 double-double's this season in points and rebounds and is currently ranked second in rebounding in the SLC, pulling down 8.0 rebounds per outing.

Hurd, a second team selection, was joined on the All-District 9 teams by Andre Emmett from Texas Tech, Brian Evans from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Michael Harris from Rice, Antoine Wright from Texas A&M, Brandon Mouton and Royal Ivey from Texas, Jason McKrieth from Rice, Bryan Hopkins from Southern Methodist and Antonio Burks from Stephen F. Austin.

With four games remaining in the regular season, Hurd has led UTSA to a 12-13 overall record, 7-5 in the SLC.  The Roadrunners will return to action on Feb. 25 with a 7:30 p.m. road game at Texas State in San Marcos.
