Rome paces UTSA on second day of Aggie Invitational

BRYAN, Texas — Michael Rome fired a 1-over-par round to pace the UTSA men's golf team on Saturday at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).
 
Rome posted a 73 to lead the No. 33-ranked Roadrunners to a 303 in the second round of the 54-hole tournament.
 
UTSA sits in 11th place (603) in the 17-team field that includes eight ranked squads, seven shots ahead of Conference USA rival Rice (610) and only a pair of strokes behind 10th-place Kansas and three shy of a tie for seventh between No. 46 Houston and North Texas.
 
Rome's 1-over scorecard featured birdies on the 412-yard, par-4 first and 190-yard, par-3 16th holes and the junior from Austin Westlake High School finds himself in a six-way tie for 16th place at 3-over 147.
 
Christian Fanfelle is in a tie for 41st at 6-over 150 after posting a 76 behind a pair of birdies in Saturday's round, while Chad Sewell has a share of 64th at 12-over 156. Hunter Bott and Collin Clark round out the UTSA lineup in 73rd (81-76—157) and 83rd (74-87—161), respectively.
 
Competing as an individual, Adam House led all Roadrunners with an even-par 72 on Saturday. The senior from Rockwall registered an eagle on the 539-yard, par-5 fifth and a birdie on the 551-yard, par-5 15th to position himself in a tie for 10th place at 2-over 146 for the tournament.
 
No. 5 Texas sits atop the team standings at 1-under, followed by top-ranked Oklahoma (+2) and No. 12 Texas A&M (+6).
 
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett leads the individual race at 6-under 138 (68-70).
 
The final round is set for Sunday.
