Gonzalez leads UTSA on first day of Rebel Beach

LAS VEGAS — Ana Gonzalez is in the top 15 and the UTSA women's golf team is in eighth place after the first day of the Rebel Beach Invitational on Monday at Spanish Trail Country Club (par 72/6,400 yards).
 
Play in the second round was suspended due to darkness and will resume at 10 a.m. CT Tuesday followed immediately by the final 18 holes.
 
With scores not yet official Gonzalez is in a tie for 11th at 2-over par, as the entire field had made the turn for the second round before play was called.
 
The Roadrunners carded a 12-over 300 in the first round and are in eighth place at 16-over par for the tournament one shot behind BYU and three in front of SMU.
 
Gonzalez, a native of Mexico, opened with a 2-over 74 that featured four birdies, all on the back nine, and the three-time all-conference performer has written down four more birdies on the same side of the course through 14 holes of her second round.
 
Hannah Holzmann and Nicole Polivchak are part of a deadlock for 24th at 4-over par. Holzmann, the reigning Conference USA Golfer of the Week, registered a 75 in the opening round and is currently 1-over through her first 14 holes of the second round. Polivchak matched Gonzalez with a 74 for the first 18 and is 2-over through 14 in round two.
 
Camryn Carreon is tied for 41st at 6-over and Katia Mexsen is two shots back of her teammate in a share of 52nd at 8-over.
