Fanfelle paces Roadrunners on Monday at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

DALLAS — Christian Fanfelle fired a pair of 72s and is in the top 30 individuals to pace the UTSA men's golf team through the first day of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.
 
Fanfelle's two 1-over-par rounds on the 7,068-yard Royal Oaks Country Club layout helped the Roadrunners to a tie with Iowa for 10th place through 36 holes. UTSA carded a 586 on the opening day of the 54-hole event and is 16 shots ahead of Nebraska and 11 behind Kent State.
 
Fanfelle posted a trio of birdies in each round and is tied for 28th at 2-over 144 with 18 holes left to play. The sophomore from San Antonio wrote down birdies on the 393-yard, par-4 ninth, the 213-yard, par 3 16th and 512-yard, par-5 18th holes in the morning. He also birdied No. 18 in the afternoon along with a pair of par fours, the 456-yard third and 475-yard 13th.
 
Meanwhile, Collin Clark turned in UTSA's best round of the day with a 3-under 68 in the afternoon. The senior from nearby Mansfield battled back from a 78 in the opening round with a season-best scorecard that featured five birdies, including Nos. 8-10. He is tied for 40th at 4-over 146.
 
David Harrison is tied for 48th after turning in a 6-over 148 on Monday. The freshman from Byron Nelson High School opened with a 2-over 73 that was headlined by an eagle on the par-5 18th. He fired a 75 in the afternoon on the strength of two of his three birdies on the day.
 
Will Adams is one shot back and in a tie for 52nd at 7-over 149. The sophomore out of Odessa Permian High School bounced back from a 78 in the morning with an even-par 71 that included a pair of birdies on each side.
 
Chad Sewell rounds out the UTSA lineup in 62nd after posting a 79-74—153.
 
Competing as individuals, Hunter Bott is tied for 45th after recording a 73-74—147, while Adam House, a native of nearby Rockwall, has a share of 57th with a 75-76—151 that included an eagle on No. 18 in the afternoon.
 
No. 6 SMU leads the team standings at 12-under 556, followed by Liberty (557), 11th-ranked and host Baylor (562), Michigan (568) and New Mexico (569).
 
Ervin Change of Liberty and Charlie Pilon of Michigan are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under 136.
 
The final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
