SAN ANTONIO -- A school-record nine former UTSA baseball stars saw time in affiliated professional baseball, with a pair advancing to the big leagues. Get the scoop on their seasons in the latest pro baseball notebook.

Nathan Alexander – 24th round (2018) – Miami Marlins
2018 (rookie): 0-2, 2.45 ERA, 12 APP, 18.1 IP, 19 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 22 SO
Notes: Made professional debut after strong 2018 season with Roadrunners, going in the 24th round of the MLB Draft to the Marlins … Appeared in nine games with seven starts for UTSA in 2018, with a 3-1 mark and a 3.19 ERA in 31 innings, fanning 30.
 
Justin Anderson – 14th round (2014) – Los Angeles Angels

Notes: Ranked seventh in the American League with 22 holds … Made MLB debut on April 23, 2018 … Advanced through three levels to appear in the big leagues for the first time in his career.

John Bormann – 24th round (2015) – Pittsburgh Pirates

Notes: Played four years with the Roadrunners and finished ranked among the top 10 in UTSA's all-time record book in games played, games started, at-bats and doubles … Earned all-conference honors in the WAC and Conference USA and was a member of the Johnny Bench Award Watch List.
 
Trent Bowles – 36th round (2018) – Philadelphia Phillies

Notes: Completed a strong four-year career with a breakout season in 2018 for the Roadrunners, hitting .323 with 18 doubles, one triple, eight homers and 40 RBI, stealing 15 bases … Hit .289 in his UTSA career with 213 hits, 22 homers and 115 RBI … Made his professional debut as a 36th round pick in the MLB Draft by the Phillies.

Derek Craft – 16th round (2018) – New York Yankees
2018 (rookie): 1-1, 8.02 ERA, 15 APP, 21.1 IP, 29 H, 19 ER, 10 BB, 33 SO
Notes: Completed a three-year UTSA career as a 16th round pick of the Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft … Appeared in 56 games with three starts over his UTSA career with four saves and 97 strikeouts in 108.1 innings … Went 3-5 with a 1.89 ERA with three saves in 52.1 innings as a junior in 2018, fanning 62.

Karl Craigie – 34th round (2017) – Miami Marlins
