UTSA to conclude home stand on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO ? UTSA, fresh off opening the Southland Conference campaign with two wins against Southeastern Louisiana last weekend, will conclude its current four-game home stand when it hosts Illinois State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners, winners of four of their last five games, enter the contest with an 8-4 overall record. Meanwhile, the Redbirds are coming of two wins at last weekend's Metrodome Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn, and they come into Tuesday's tilt at 4-4 on the spring.

Freshman left-hander Marc Gomez (0-0, 7.50 ERA) will make his second start of the season for UTSA. He will face righty Quinn Ewert (0-0, 20.25), who will be making his first start of the season and just his second appearnace overall.

Senior left fielder Jose Hernandez was a one-man wrecking crew in leading UTSA toa 3-1 record last week. His top game was a three-homer, six-RBIperformance in Friday’s 11-10 SLC-opening win. Not only did he tie the program’s single-game record withhis three long balls, but his walk-off two-run shot with two down inthe ninth completed a five-run rally. Hernandez had at least two hitsin all four contests last week, a total of seven extra-base hits (25total bases) and 11 RBIs. He leads the Roadrunners in batting average(.452), runs (18), doubles (7), home runs (7), total bases (49), RBIs(20), slugging percentage (1.167), walks (7), hit by pitch (4) andon-base percentage (.556) this season.
