Rockett named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week


Junior Michael Rockett hit for the first cycle in UTSA history on Saturday.

TUSCON, Ariz. ? Junior Michael Rockett's big weekend against Sacred Heart did not go unnoticed, as he was one of four players selected as Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, Collegiate Baseball announced on Monday. Rockett is just the second Roadrunner to earn the award in the program's 17-year history (Mark Schramek, April 22, 2002).

The Sugar Land native was spectacular in leading UTSA to a four-game sweep of the Pioneers. Rockett led a 48-run (schoolrecord for four-game series), 56-hit offensive onslaught by going10-for-16 (.625 avg.) with four doubles, a triple, his first home runof the year and nine RBIs. The preseason first-team All-SouthlandConference choice also recorded a 1.188 slugging percentage on thestrength of 19 total bases and scored six times.

The highlight of hisweekend came in Saturday's nightcap when he hit for the cycle, a firstin school history, in the game's first four innings.Rockett ? who also had a career-high six RBIs in the 16-2 victory ? doubled in the firstinning, singled in the second, homered in the third and tripled in thefourth before taking the rest of the game off. Earlier in the day, the2006 Freshman All-American went 2-for-3 with a double and finished thetwinbill by going 6-for-7.

He was 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of RBIsand four runs scored in the series opener on Friday night and hewrapped up the weekend by going 1-for-4 with a run-scoring, ground-ruledouble on Sunday.

Rockett is hitting .464 (13-28) with six doubles, atriple, one long ball and 12 RBIs in the season's first eight games. Hehas scored eight runs, reached base at a .500 clip, is slugging .857(24 total bases) and stolen one base.
