Palincsar earns Freshman All-America accolades

Tim Palincsar became the third Freshman All-American in school history on Wednesday.

TUSCON, Ariz. ? Redshirt freshman Tim Palincsar earned his second postseason award on Wednesday when Collegiate Baseball named him a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. It marks the second consecutive year that a Roadrunner has been named to the prestigious squad and he is just the third honoree in school history.

The Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and third-team designated hitter had a solid first season at UTSA. The College Station native started 55 of the team’s 58 games and hit .304 with a team-leading and UTSA freshman-record 56 runs scored (No. 4 UTSA single-season list), 13 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 37 RBIs, 30 walks, a .406 on-base percentage and a team-best 13 stolen bases (in 13 attempts). He was just as steady in league games, ranking second in the SLC in runs scored (34) and third in stolen bases (nine).

Palincsar had a career-high 13-game hitting streak from March 21-April 10, a career-best four hits against Texas-Pan American on April 17 and a career-best four RBIs on two occasions (vs. Southeastern Louisiana, April 1/at Texas-Arlington, April 7). He also was named to the Al Ogletree Classic All-Tournament Team after going 5-for-11 with a pair of runs, a double and one stolen base from March 2-4.

"I am extremely pleased Tim made the Freshman All-American team." head coach Sherman Corbett said. "He had a great year and I am happy to see him get rewarded in this way. I look forward to his return next year to see what he will be able to accomplish."

Michael Rockett was selected a year ago and Ryan Crew was a 2003 honoree.
