FRISCO ? Sophomore center fielder Michael Rockett and redshirt freshman designated hitter Tim Palincsar both were named to the 13-member 2007 Capital One/Southland Conference All-Academic Baseball Team, the league office announced on Thursday.

Rockett, who earned second-team All-SLC honors for the second year in a row last month, maintains a 3.14 grade-point average (gpa) in pre-business. A starter in all 58 games, he ranked second on the team in hits (80) and RBIs (52) and third in batting average (.325), multi-hit games (24), doubles (15), total bases (121) and multi-RBI performances (12). The Sugar Land native also had a triple, eight home runs, 45 runs scored and six stolen bases. One of the nation’s top center fielders, he posted a .988 fielding percentage with a team-high seven outfield assists. His 34 runs scored in conference games ranked second in the league and Rockett also hit .351 with nine doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 32 RBIs and a .595 slugging percentage.

Palincsar ? who earlier was named a Freshman All-American, the 2007 SLC Freshman of the Year and a third-team All-SLC selection ? maintains a 3.11 gpa in business management. The College Station native started 55 of the team’s 58 games and hit .304 with a team-leading and UTSA freshman-record 56 runs scored (No. 4 UTSA single-season list), 13 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 37 RBIs, 30 walks, a .406 on-base percentage and team-best 13 stolen bases (in 13 attempts). He was just as steady in league games, ranking second in the SLC in runs scored (34) and third in stolen bases (nine).

“I am pleased to have Michael and Tim make the conference’s all-academic team,” head coach Sherman Corbett said. “It is a testament to their hard work and dedication in both the classroom and baseball field. With academic standards continuing to rise, it is important that all of our players seriously pursue their academics.”

To qualify for the all-academic team, student-athletes must have a cumulative gpa of 3.00 or higher and participate in at least 50 percent of the team’s scheduled events. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible. Each member institution’s head coach, sports information director and academics coordinator are allowed to vote.
