UTSA defeats Texas-Pan American, 10-9, in extra innings

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA Roadrunners (8-7) rallied from a five-run deficit to defeat the Texas-Pan American (8-10) 10-9 on Tuesday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. Junior Ryan Saltzgaber's no-out bases loaded single up the middle gave UTSA the victory.

Noah Tritz (2-0) got the win in relief for the Runners, while Tim Haines (2-1) was the loser. Some big offense from UTSA, including seven extra-base hits, proved the difference in the game. Saltzgaber, senior Lee Todesco and sophomore Marshal Davis were all especially impressive for the Runners, contributing three hits apiece in the afternoon affair.

UTSA's big hole early was due in part to some defensive struggles. Junior pitcher Josh Blakely gave up seven runs in two and two-thirds innings, but only one of them was earned, as a pair of Roadrunner errors in each of the first two innings allowed the Broncos to build a 7-2 lead. However, some stellar relief pitching from Tritz and senior Caleb Barton kept UTSA in the game, as the two combined to give up just two runs over 7.1 innings.

Senior J.R. Voyles and junior Brandon Koger both went deep in the game for UTSA; Voyles' long ball was his second on the year, while Koger's was his first. Voyles' home run highlighted a UTSA sixth inning that also saw three triples and 10 total batters.

UTSA returns to action this weekend in the Baseball Express Collegiate
Classic at Wolff Stadium, taking on four different teams over four days. The first game will be Friday, March 10, at 3 p.m. against Iowa.
