Baseball shuts out Abilene Christian, 5-0

SAN ANTONIO – Six UTSA pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout to lead the Roadrunners to a 5-0 victory over visiting Abilene Christian on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field.

UTSA (29-21) scored one run in the opening frame, while the six arms made it hold up. The Roadrunners scored four insurance runs in the eighth inning to pull away.

Kyrell Miller (4-1) received the win after pitching a predetermined three innings, as the right-hander allowed only three hits and fanned a pair of hitters.

Derek Craft followed Miller and struck out the side in the fourth. Bradley Griggs allowed just one hit in his two frames of work, while Andre Shewcraft struck out three over 1.2 stanzas. Jordan Rodriguez faced only one batter, but struck him out to end the eighth.

Zach Zeller pitched a scoreless ninth, yielding one hit and striking out two, including the final hitter.

The Roadrunners picked up the go-ahead run in the first, as Dylan Rock dropped a single into center field, scoring Trent Bowles.

UTSA loaded the bases in the eighth, leading to four runs.

Joshua Lamb started the scoring with an RBI single to right-center. After Logan Swofford walked with the bases loaded to push across a run, Ryan Stacy produced a two-run single to right field, sending both Lamb and Garrett Moon plateward.

Stacy, who led off for the first time this season, was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Bowles, Rock and Ben Brookover each added a pair of hits.

The Roadrunners will close out the regular season later in the week against Charlotte. The pivotal Conference USA series is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Thursday. UTSA will honor its 10 seniors prior to Friday night's game, which is slated to start at 6 p.m. Saturday's finale is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
