SAN ANTONIO— UTSA Roadrunners fell to UIW 8-5 on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas for their first loss since Feb. 18.
THE BASICS:

UTSA jumped out to the first lead off the game in the first inning. Mason Lytle was able to reach on a fielding error and was then advanced to third on back-to-back hit by pitches. Caden Miller was the one who plated Lytle as he was able to reach on a fielder’s choice.
After two scoreless innings, UIW took their first lead of the game on back-to-back solo home runs. Miller singled up the middle to start the fourth and was then advanced to third on a ground out. Andrew Stucky brought Miller home on a bunt single to even the game at 2-2.
In the top of the fifth, UIW scored four runs on a three-RBI double and an RBI single to take a 6-2 lead. After another scoreless two innings, UIW extended its lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Roadrunners showed some fight as they were able to load the bases. James Taussig came into the game to pinch hit with the bases loaded and jumped on the first ball he saw scoring Jordan Ballin who reached on a walk and Miller who reached on a fielder’s choice. With runners on first and third, Lytle picked up an RBI with a single to right field.
Both teams were able to shut out their opponents in the ninth ending the ballgame with an 8-5 victory in favor of UIW.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Drew Detlefsen has now reached base safely in all 19 games of the season.
- Nathan Hodge had a single to improve his hitting streak to seven games.
- Lytle recorded two hits in the ball game, he now has 11 multiple hit games this season.
- Taussig’s two RBI single marks his third multiple RBI game this season.
