ARLINGTON, Texas – The UTSA softball team suffered a 5-3 setback at the hands of UT Arlington in nonconference action on Tuesday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Roadrunners (12-11, 0-3 The American) fell to the Mavericks (13-9, 2-1 WAC), as sophomore Meredith Schmitt (4-2) was pegged with the loss and Jessica Adams (4-2) earned the win.
Freshman Skylar Rucker went 2-for-3 at the dish with a walk and two runs scored, while senior Jaylen Prichard logged the squad's lone RBI.
The 'Runners struck first as a Prichard triple in the top of the first pushed Rucker across for a 1-0 lead. UTA answered in the home half, scoring two, and used a two-run home run in the second to build a 4-1 advantage.
The Mavericks added another in the sixth, sending UTSA up to bat down four in the seventh. Freshman Sabrina Wick and Rucker worked back-to-back singles with one out, and a groundout advanced the pair into scoring position. An error allowed the pair to score for a 5-3 score line, but UTA found the final out to secure the victory.
UTSA will visit Memphis, Tennessee, next, where a three-game American Athletic Conference series awaits against the Tigers, beginning Friday at the Tiger Softball Complex.
