SAN ANTONIO — UTSA is set to host UIW in a mid-week bout at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio, Texas.
The Matchup
The 15-3 Roadrunners will take on the 8-8 Cardinals in UTSA’s 19th game of the season. The two teams from San Antonio will play their first game against each other this season with the next game being held on Tuesday, May 6 at Sullivan Field.

UTSA and UIW have played 32 games against each other with this game being the 33rd game of the all-time series. The Roadrunners currently hold a record of 20-12 over UIW with a current win streak of two games.
The last time these two played each other was on May 14, 2024, where UTSA won 13-3 at Roadrunner Field.
On the Mound
James Hubbard will be the starting pitcher for the Roadrunners in this weekday battle. Hubbard has three starts to his name, notching 10 innings pitched, racking up 10 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.60. Hubbard threw a season high seven strikeouts against Houston Christian on Feb. 25.
Last Time Out
The Roadrunners swept Texas Southern in a three-game series played at Roadrunner Field. In the Friday night game played on Mar. 7, UTSA ran ruled Texas Southern 12-2 in seven innings. On Mar. 8, The Roadrunners defeated the Tigers 14-5. To cap off the series sweep on Mar. 9 UTSA won 7-4 thanks to a five-run eighth inning.
Win Streak
The Roadrunners are currently on a 14-game win streak. This 14-game win streak is a program record, beating out a 12-game win streak set by the 1994 team. The streak started with a 6-5 win over Long Island University on Feb. 22.
Hallmark’s Start
Head coach Pat Hallmark’s head coaching career started at UIW where he spent two seasons with the Cardinals leading them to a 66-24 record over the two years, he spent there. In 2019, Hallmark led the Cardinals to a 37-22 season, which is his third best season as a head coach.
Atop the AAC
For the first time all season the Roadrunners are now first in the AAC as they hold a 15-3 record. UAB is two games behind the Roadrunners with a 13-3 record, with Florida Atlantic trailing closely with a 13-3 record.
Leading the League
The Roadrunners have been dominating this season, which puts them in front of the AAC in nine different statistical measures. As a team the Roadrunners lead the AAC in batting average (.347), slugging percentage (.500), on-base percentage (.456), runs (162), hits (205), RBIs (147), total bases (295), ERA (3.65) and innings pitched (109.0).
AAC Weekly Awards
Detlefsen was awarded AAC player of the week on March 10. He batted .500 on the week recording eight hits including one double and one home run. Detlefsen also had seven total RBIs on the week. In the 7-4 victory over Texas Southern on Sunday, Mar. 9, Detlefsen was the one who drove in the go-ahead run on his single in the eighth.
Lytle was named AAC player of the week on March 3, where he tallied a .583 batting average with 14 hits in 24 at bats with eleven RBIs. Lytle notched seven total doubles and a career high three doubles against Youngstown State on Saturday, Mar. 1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Three Roadrunners have been listed on the weekly honor roll. On Feb. 24, Caden Miller and Braylon Owens made the honor roll. On Mar. 10, Robert Orloski was listed on the AAC weekly honor roll.
At-Home Dominance
The Roadrunners are 13-0 at home, outscoring their opponents 145-40. In seven of the 30 games played at Roadrunner Field, UTSA has been able to put their opponents away early by run-ruling their foes in the seventh inning.
Hallmark’s 150th
Head coach Pat Hallmark earned his 150th career win with UTSA on Saturday, Mar. 1 defeating the YSU 16-13. Hallmark is just the third UTSA head coach to reach at least 150 wins in program history.
Leading the League
The Roadrunners have been dominating all season, which puts them in front of the AAC in nine different statistical measures. As a team the Roadrunners lead the AAC in batting average (3.342), slugging percentage (.493), on-base percentage (.444), runs (129), hits (168), RBIs (118), total bases (242) and innings pitched (118.0). They are currently tied for first in triples with four.
No Free Bags
The Roadrunners hold a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.54, which is leading the nation and first in the American Athletic Conference. They also have a 2.90 ratio of walks per nine innings, which is also the best in the country.
Doubles and Jacks
The Roadrunner offense has come alive as they have racked up 38 doubles on the year, putting them in second place among the AAC. UTSA has 14 homers which is third in the conference. Drew Detlefsen leads the team in homers with five to his name, which is second in the conference.
Energy Stu
Senior catcher Andrew Stucky, whose name is pronounced STEW-key, was the inspiration for a team mantra, Energy Stu. Comes from a phrase shouted to the team to raise the energy at practice.
The Return of Malone
Former pitcher Luke Malone rejoins the Roadrunners in a different capacity as he joined the coaching staff in October 2024 as the Director of Player Development and Analytics.
Malone was a star pitcher for the Roadrunners from 2020 to 2023, earning all-conference accolades in each of his final two seasons. The right-hander finished his career with a 17-9 record, 4.45 ERA, 178 strikeouts and a pair of saves in 63 appearances that totaled 234.2 innings pitched.
2024 AAC All-Freshman Team
The Roadrunners welcome back both Diego Diaz and Orloski, who both made the 2024 AAC All-Freshman Team. Both Diaz and Orloski are already seeing significant action for the Roadrunners.
Diaz has started four games for the Roadrunners at second base, playing in a total of 11 games. Orloski has pitched in five games for the Roadrunners, tallying 20.1 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts and three walks with five wins.
Preseason AAC Rankings
After finishing 17-10 to finish second in the American Athletic Conference in 2024, their first year in the league, the Roadrunners were picked to finish fourth by the league’s coaches in 2025.
Lytle’s Accomplishments
Senior outfield Mason Lytle has racked up an impressive list of awards entering his senior campaign. In his first year with the Roadrunners, Lytle was named 2024 AAC Newcomer of the Year while also being named to the AAC All-Academic Team.
Leading up to the 2025 season, Lytle has been named as the 2025 Preseason Player of the Year, the 2025 D1Baseball AAC Preseason Player of the Year and to the 2025 Perfect Game College Baseball Preseason AAC All-Conference Team. He was also named the 32nd-best outfielder in the nation, according to D1Baseball.
The Hodge Brothers
UTSA has a pair of brothers on the team, Ty Hodge and Nathan Hodge. The Hodge brothers come from College Station, Texas, but have two different paths in finding their way to UTSA. T. Hodge is a transfer from Houston Christian who spent a year at Texas A&M. N. Hodge is a true freshman.
Home Grown
28 of the 38 players on the roster are from Texas, making up just shy of 75 percent of the roster. These players range from southern Texas, such as Pharr, all the way up to northern Texas, such as Mansfield. Josh Vaughn is the lone Roadrunner that calls San Antonio home.
Overseas Roadrunners
The Roadrunners have two players that come from outside of America, Lorenzo Morresi and Conor Myles. Morresi is from Macerata, Italy. Before coming to UTSA, Morressi spent two seasons in Hobbs, New Mexico, playing at NMJC.
Myles comes from the southern hemisphere, calling Melbourne, Australia, home. Myles spent two seasons in west Texas, as he played for Odessa JC before coming to play for the Roadrunners.
Fresh-faced Freshmen
UTSA has seven true freshmen on the roster and two redshirt freshmen. The two redshirt freshmen are Ryan Jester, who spent last season with the Roadrunners, and Holden Harris, who comes to UTSA after spending the 2024 season at TCU.
The seven true freshmen are Peyton Adams, Jordan Ballin, Mason Jacob, N. Hodge, Ryley Chapman, Todd Rochelle and Caden Miller.
