UTSA returns home to host UTEP

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team returns home to host UTEP on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (CT) at the Convocation Center. 
 
Promotions for the game include Healthcare Appreciation Night with UT Health San Antonio and a halftime performance by the John Jay High School dance team. 
 
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Junior Jordyn Jenkins leads the team in scoring with 233 points, averaging 17.9 per game. Jenkins also leads the team with 18 steals. Redshirt sophomore Elyssa Coleman has done a phenomenal job on defense with a team-high 84 rebounds and 18 blocks. Junior Kyra White leads the Roadrunners with 53 assists, averaging 4.2 per game. White is seventh in the conference with a 1.54 assist/turnover ratio. Freshman Sidney Love has the second-most on the team in both points (125) and assists (27). UTSA is first in the conference with 7.5 rebound margin, outperforming its opponents by 521 rebounds to 423 rebounds.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Roadrunners are coming off a 77-69 loss to WKU on Thursday. UTSA fell to a 3-10 overall record (1-3 in C-USA action) after the loss. Although the Roadrunners led through the third quarter of action, the Lady Toppers used a strong 24-point final period to secure the victory.
 
Kyra White led UTSA as she scored a career-high 18 points, including a career-high three three-point baskets. Two more Roadrunners scored in double digits – Elyssa Coleman (17) and Sidney Love (14). Coleman was just a rebound shy of a double-double, leading the team with nine boards. UTSA led the way in almost every category, but the three-pointers and turnovers made the difference. The Lady Toppers notched 10 three-point baskets, while the Roadrunners countered with four. UTSA had 23 turnovers, while WKU had 14 turnovers.
 
SCOUTING THE MINERS
UTEP holds a 10-3 record (3-1 in C-USA action) after an 72-66 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Jan. 7. The Miners were picked to finish eighth in the conference in the preseason C-USA Coaches' Poll. UTEP ended the 2021-22 season with an 14-15 overall record, falling in the C-USA first round to UTSA to end their season.
 
UTEP leads the conference and is 28th in the nation with a 5.00 turnover margin. N'Yah Boyd leads the Miners with 151 points scored, averaging 12.6 per game, and 35 assists. Adhel Tac has a team-high 91 rebounds, including 55 defensive boards, while Jazion Jackson leads the Miners with 29 steals. 
 
SERIES HISTORY VS UTEP
The Roadrunners hold a 23-19 advantage over the Miners in the all-times series history. UTSA and UTEP last played each other on March 8, 2022, when the Roadrunners defeated the Miners, 58-57 in overtime, in the first round of the Conference USA Championship. Elyssa Coleman led the way with 21 points and 11 boards.
 
UP NEXT: The Roadrunners continue their week at home as they welcome Charlotte on Saturday. The game is set to tip-off at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Convocation Center and will be streamed on ESPN+.
