Holzmann paces Roadrunners on opening day of Texas State Invitational

KYLE, Texas — Hannah Holzmann is in contention for the individual crown and the UTSA women's golf team is in a tight race for the team title after the opening day of the Texas State Invitational, which got underway Monday at Plum Creek Golf Course (par 72/6,290 yards).

Play was suspended due to darkness with most of the field still on the course in the second round. That round will resume on Tuesday morning, followed immediately by the final 18 holes.

Scores are unofficial in the second round, but Holzmann is in third place at 1-under par, just three shots off the pace of 4-under set by Hanna Alberto of Sam Houston State.

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners were tied for second after carding a 298 in the first round and they currently stand third at 21-over late in the second round. UTSA, the defending team champion, is two strokes behind Texas State and eight back of Sam Houston State in the 15-team field.

Holzmann fired a 2-over 74 in the opening round on the strength of three birdies. The sophomore from San Antonio has posted four more birdies through the first 17 holes of her second round, which has her at 3-under par.

Nicole Polivchak led the entire field of 78 players with a 1-under 71 for the opening 18 holes. The junior transfer registered five birdies, including back-to-back on Nos. 1 and 2 and again on the 11th and 12th holes. She is currently tied for 12th at 6-over par with three holes left in her second round.

Madison Kidd is one shot back in a tie for 16th at 7-over par. The senior turned in a 77 in the first round on the strength of a pair of birdies and she is 2-over par with two holes left to play in the second round.

Ana Gonzalez is part of a 10-way tie for 23rd at 9-over par. The junior from Mexico opened with a 76 that featured three birdies and she has a 77 on her unofficial scorecard for the second 18.

Camryn Carreon rounds out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 42nd (+12). The freshman from San Antonio carded a 77 behind two birdies in the morning and she sits at 7-over par with two holes remaining in the second round.
