Soccer inks five on National Signing Day

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer head coach Derek Pittman announced the signing of five players to the 2021 class on Wednesday.
 
"We knew that we would have a talented roster coming back for the 2021 fall season so our focus was to add plenty of versatility, soccer IQ and athleticism to our team with this signing class," Pittman said. "Our number one priority in our identification process is to add high character individuals to our roster and these ladies definitely represent those intangibles that will continue elevating our program and team culture. Not only are they strong women that fit our UTSA Soccer DNA, they are also very talented with tons of speed, quickness and athleticism to complement their love for the game. We are very happy to be announcing the addition of these five players to our roster for next fall." 
 
Halee Griffin
Position: Outside back/Forward
Hometown: Hutto, Texas
High school: Hutto HS
Club team: Lonestar Soccer Club
 
Quote from Pittman on Griffin: "Halee is a talented player that we identified a couple years ago in 2018, as someone that has speed, toughness and overall athleticism on the field. She has the ability to play in a variety of positions both as an outside back or forward, which makes her a great addition to our roster. She has continued to develop within Lonestar SC in Austin and is athlete that we expect to fit in well with our playing style and team culture."
 
Bio: Named Offensive MVP … first-team all-district.
 

 
Jordyn Hyland
Position: Midfielder
Hometown:  Golden, Colo.
High school: Golden HS
Club team: Colorado Rush U19 GA

She is an intelligent and talented player that can play in a number of different spots in the midfield for our team. Bio: US Soccer training participant … three-time co-captain … played for a developmental academy freshman year and a girls academy senior year … 2019 Defensive Player of the Year for Rush DA.
 

 
Zoe Lam
Position: Outside back
Hometown: Cheyenne, Wy.
High school: Cheyenne Central HS
Club team: Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club

Overall, she is an extremely high character individual with a fantastic personality to be around. She is lightning fast and has a big engine to be able to run from box to box as a wide player. Zoe is a dynamic player that can play on either side of the field and be very dangerous coming forward from her outside back position."

Position: Forward/Midfielder/Defender

Bio: Named all-district honorable mention and first-team all-district … earned 2020 team "Courage" award … three-time all-district Academic Excellence Award recipient … team captain … finished second in district three years straight … competed in state quarterfinals in 2017 and first round of playoffs in 2019 … two-time regional champion and National Cup Finals qualifier.
