UTSA women’s basketball to welcome Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team (2-12, 0-2 C-USA) is set to host Middle Tennessee (8-7, 0-2 C-USA) for its conference home opener in the Convocation Center on Thursday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. The morning tipoff will serve as UTSA's Elementary School Day game where the Roadrunners have invited local schools to attend on class trips and create a unique game environment on Thursday.
 
The Roadrunners will follow that up with a contest against Old Dominion (2-13, 0-2 C-USA) on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on C-USA.tv. 
 
MTSU game overview 
UTSA continues Conference USA play with a Thursday morning home contest against Middle Tennessee. The game will tip at 11 a.m. from the Convocation Center. UTSA enters with a 2-12 overall mark while MTSU is 8-7 overall. Both teams are still searching for their first conference win this season. The contest will be streamed on CUSA.tv with Stu Paul providing play-by-play.

Inside the series: MTSU leads 4-0
UTSA and Middle Tennessee have only met four previous times with the Blue Raiders owning a 4-0 series advantage. The series started in 2014 after UTSA joined Conference USA. The Roadrunners are 0-1 all-time at home against MTSU, and 0-3 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. 

Getting to know MTSU
The Blue Raiders are coming off 59-51 setback against UAB despite 15 points from Gaby Lyon and 11 points from Abbey Sissom. Playing in 15 games with 14 starts, Lyon averages 6.3 points per game while leading the Blue Raiders with 6.3 rebounds per game. Sissom has been the catalyst for Middle Tennessee's offense as she is averaging a team-high 14 points per game and dishing out 2.8 assists per game.

ODU game overview
UTSA continues Conference USA play with a Saturday evening contest against Old Dominion. The game will tip at 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. The contest will be streamed on CUSA.tv with Stu Paul providing play-by-play.

Inside the series: UTSA and Old Dominion have split six games
UTSA and Old Dominion have split the first six meeting of the all-time series. The series started in 2014 after UTSA joined Conference USA. The Roadrunners have claimed the last two meetings, including an 81-68 victory last season. Overall, the Roadrunners are 1-1 at home against ODU, 2-0 in Norfolk and 0-1 at neutral sites.
 
Getting to know ODU
Saturday's game against the Roadrunners will be the Monarchs' first games away from The Ted since before Christmas, when ODU traveled to Las Vegas for the Holiday Hoops Classic Dec. 21-22. Last week, ODU opened C-USA play with a pair of tough losses to UAB and Charlotte at The Ted. Despite opening the conference slate 0-2, the Monarchs averaged 60 points per game during their first two C-USA games, over six points more than they averaged in non-conference play. Junior point guard MaKayla Timmons paced the Monarchs during the opening weekend of conference play, averaging 17.5 points and six assists. Overall, freshman Victoria Morris leads the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game and has reached double figures in all but two games. Odegua Oigbokie is also averaging double figures with 11.5 points and also leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game.

The Roadrunners take to the road for C-USA contests at WKU (Thursday, Jan. 18) and Old Dominion (Saturday, Jan. 20). Thursday's tilt in Bowling Green, Ky., is set for 11 a.m., while Saturday's game in Norfolk, Va., is a 6 p.m. CT tipoff. Both contests will stream on CUSA.tv.
