Four Roadrunners named Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Julie Houston, Madison Kidd, Nikki Long and Becky McGeehan all were named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, the organization announced on Wednesday.

The Roadrunners were four of 952 women's collegiate golf student-athletes across all divisions recognized with the prestigious honor. Each honoree is required to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better and be a significant contributor on their team.

Houston, who was named a WGCA All-American Scholar for the second straight year, carries a 3.91 GPA as a pre-business major and is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient for posting a 3.75 or better GPA. The Allen native recently capped her sophomore season by being named third-team All-Conference USA, her second all-league certificate. The 2016 C-USA Freshman of the Year posted a 74.9 stroke average and five top-20 finishes, including tying for fourth to help lead UTSA to the Texas State Invitational title.

Kidd was tabbed a WGCA All-American Scholar for the first time after registering a 3.71 GPA as a kinesiology major in her first year in San Antonio. She received a C-USA Academic Medal and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll this spring. The Lake Jackson native turned in a 77.44 stroke average and a pair of top 20s as a freshman. She tied for 12th place with a 220 (74-74-72) to help UTSA to a runner-up finish at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational, and she was 18th at the C-USA Championship.

Long, who boasts a 3.96 GPA in economics, collected her third WGCA All-American Scholar certificate. A two-time InTouch Conference USA All-Academic Team selection and three-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient, she earned second-team all-league accolades after leading the Roadrunners with a 74.52 stroke average in 2016-17. The San Antonio Johnson High School product finished in the top five at three events, highlighted by a tie for fourth that helped UTSA win the Texas State Invitational, and she was named C-USA Athlete of the Week three times during her junior campaign.

McGeehan, who is making her first appearance on the WGCA All-American Scholar team, carries a 3.55 GPA as a psychology major. She is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and received her first C-USA Academic Medal this spring. A native of Germany, she recorded a 76.74 stroke average and two top-25 finishes during her junior year. She fired a 225 (74-77-74) to tie for 18th at the C-USA Championship and she was 25th to help lead the Roadrunners to the Texas State Invitational title.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that a Roadrunner has been honored as a WGCA All-American Scholar.
