About the UTSA Roadrunners
The Roadrunners are ready to get back to work at home after one of the biggest conference victories in program history and arguably the best win of the year so far. After falling to the Mean Green at home in January, UTSA traveled to Denton on Saturday and defeated North Texas in the Super Pit, 54-50. Heading into the matchup, the Mean Green were tied for first in the AAC and were a perfect 11-0 at home. UTSA held North Texas to a staggering 13 points in the first half, the second-lowest in UTSA program history and lowest half total in the NCAA this season. Leading the charge, Raekwon Horton fired off a career-high 23 points, going 8-for-11 from the field and 7-of-7 at the free throw line, collecting four rebounds, three steals and two assists to receive AAC weekly Honorable Mention.

The Roadrunners have an opportunity in the coming weeks to climb the AAC standings heading into the tournament, starting with this homestand week against Tulane and East Carolina at the Convo. The Roadrunners’ average took a hit from the low-scoring affair in Denton, but they still rank fifth in the conference in scoring at 77.9 ppg, producing an NCAA sixth-best 16.8 fast break ppg. A key to the UNT win, the Roadrunners continue their pressure as the AAC’s top team for steals (9.7 spg) at 13th nationally and turnovers forced (15.3) at 23rd in the NCAA. Helping rack up the numbers, UTSA fills the scorebook with three pointers, leading the league with an NCAA 30th-best 9.9 threes per game – averaging 35.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Primo Spears is still holding at eighth nationally with 20.5 ppg to lead the Roadrunners, also pacing UTSA with an AAC third-best 87.7 percent at the line and he’s ninth in the conference at 3.8 assists per outing. Right at his side with seven consecutive double-figure games, Marcus Millender is averaging 12.5 ppg and 3.2 apg. Rounding out a rare group in the AAC with five players averaging double-digits, Horton has 12.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg, Tai’Reon Joseph has 11.2 ppg and Damari Monsanto has 11.0 ppg – still leading the AAC with an NCAA-12th 3.30 three-pointers per game, shooting a league-high 42 percent from the perimeter. In the post, Jonnivius Smith came up big with three key blocks against North Texas and leads UTSA with a league fourth-best 1.6 blocks per game, while also ranking third in the AAC with 7.7 rebounds per contest.

About the Series
The Green Wave and Roadrunners will meet for sixth time on Wednesday after opening UTSA’s conference slate in New Orleans on Jan. 4. The first meeting didn’t fare well for the Roadrunners, suffering a 92-63 loss despite a strong second-half effort. In 2024’s dramatic series renewal last January at the Convocation Center, the game featured nine ties and 19 lead changes, capped by Jordan Ivy-Curry's buzzer-beater in the 89-88 UTSA win. In UTSA’s last appearance in New Orleans in 2014, UTSA dropped a 56-68 decision. UTSA trails 1-4 in the series and are 1-1 playing in San Antonio since the series opener in 1982.

About the Tulane Green Wave
The Green Wave have defied expectations as the preseason 11th-place pick in the AAC, sitting in a tie for fourth in the conference at 12-10 and 6-3 in AAC play in the sixth season under Ron Hunter. Since putting a heavy win against the Roadrunners to open January, Tulane has also earned wins over South Florida and Florida Atlantic, fighting out an AAC Showcase loss to Memphis last week, and are coming off a three-point win over Tulsa at home.

Still among the top field goal defenses in the country, Tulane leads the AAC with a 21st-ranked 39.8 percent opponent shooting percentage, holding foes to 30.2 percent from the perimeter. That translates for the Green Wave to the league’s second-best scoring defense at 68.0 percent – helping them out with their offense at ninth in the AAC at 74.8 ppg. Though they got the best of UTSA in the first go-around on the boards, Tulane comes in at eighth in the AAC with 36.1 rpg, but does collect 7.7 steals per outing.

A very young team with nine freshmen or sophomores on the roster, Tulane is tall and that has worked to their advantage this year, boasting an average height of 6-8; the 36th-tallest team in the nation. Indiana transfer Kaleb Banks continues to be the scoring leader at 16.7 ppg, while also collecting a team-high 7.3 rebounds. Guard Rowan Brumbaugh has proven more and more dangerous as the season progresses, scoring 15.0 ppg with 3.4 rpg and an AAC-second 4.5 apg, serving as the Green Wave’s most frequent perimeter shooter with 47 threes on the year and a 37 percent average. Freshman freshman Kam Williams also hits from three with 43 on the year and a 41 percent average toward his 9.4 ppg – also collecting an AAC fourth-best 1.77 spg.

Up Next
UTSA closes up the week at home, welcoming East Carolina to the Convocation Center in a 7 p.m. ESPNU nightcap on Saturday. Next week will see the Roadrunners back out on the road for a full week, in rematches at Wichita State and Tulsa.
