PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — Logan Zurn is in the top 10 and UTSA is in fourth place after the second round of the Vaqueros Intercollegiate, which continued Monday at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club (par 72/6,701 yards).

Zurn carded a one-shot improvement from his opening round with an even-par 72 to move into a four-way tie for 10th at 1-over par through 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament. The junior from Grapevine, Texas, recorded three birdies en route to the third par-or-better round of his debut campaign with the Roadrunners.

Starting on No. 2, Zurn registered four pars before logging his first birdie of the day, a four on the 547-yard seventh hole. He then posted par on five of the next six holes before posting back-to-back birdies with a four on the 485-yard 14th and a three on the 401-yard 15th. He settled for two pars and a pair of bogeys over his final four holes in turning in the top round of the UTSA lineup.

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are in fourth place in the team standings with a 594 (296-298), one stroke ahead of ULM and three in front of Denver. No. 16 SMU and UTEP are tied for first (573), while North Texas is in third (587) in the 15-team field.

Playing as an individual, Walker Franklin turned in the best round by a Roadrunner this week with a 1-under 71 on Monday. The senior from Colorado recorded five birdies for the second straight round, including four on the front side with three coming on consecutive holes (Nos. 5-7). In fact, he birdied three of the four par threes on the course today, and his 10 birdies are the second-best total in the field so far this week. He is in a tie for 23rd at 4-over 148.

David Martinez is one shot behind Zurn in a tie for 14th at 2-over 146. The freshman from Houston posted his second straight 73 on Monday, logging birdies on the 489-yard, par-5 fifth, the 372-yard, par-4 16th and the 548-yard, par-5 18th holes.
