UTSA set for The Aggie Invitational this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men’s golf team will travel to Bryan, Texas, to play in The Aggie Invitational this Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, at Traditions Club (par 72/7,227 yards).

The Roadrunners will bring a lineup of Hunter Bott, Brock Blais, David Harrison, Jack Wehman and Walker Franklin, while Bryson Thurston will play as an individual.

UTSA will compete against No. 44 Baylor, Florida Gulf Coast, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, No. 46 Louisville, No. 30 LSU, Memphis, New Mexico State, Sam Houston and No. 23 Texas A&M.

The field will play 36 holes on Saturday and the final round is slated for Sunday with tee times beginning at 7:20 a.m. each day.

UTSA last competed on March 18-19 at the All-American Intercollegiate, finishing in 17th place at the Golf Club of Houston. Bott led the way by tying for 23rd with a 5-over-par 221 (71-74-76).

A senior from Montgomery, Texas, Bott tied for 10th place to help the Roadrunners finish 13th at The Aggie Invitational a year ago. The all-conference performer fired a 3-under 213 (74-68-71) and collected Conference USA Golfer of the Week honors a few days later.

Bott paces UTSA with a 71.69 stroke average and eight top-25 finishes, including a trio of top 10s. His top showing was a runner-up effort at The Clerico last fall when he shot an 8-under 202 (68-68-66).

Wehman stands second on the squad with a 73.64 scoring mark. The junior from Austin Vandegrift High School owns a pair of top-10 finishes this spring, including a tie for fifth at the Dorado Beach Collegiate.

Harrison is close behind Wehman with a 73.96 average and two top-20 finishes, including a tie for 14th at The Carolina Cup last fall.

Blais boasts a 74.12 stroke average and a pair of top-25 showings during his debut campaign with the Roadrunners.

Franklin has a 76.71 average and a top finish of 46th at the Bentwater Invitational, while Thurston totes a 77.71 mark and also record his top showing of 51st at the Bentwater.
