Blais leads UTSA on Sunday at The Hayt

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Brock Blais posted a 1-under-par 71 while playing in his hometown to lead the UTSA men’s golf team on the second day of The Hayt at Sawgrass Country Club (par 72/6,966 yards).

Blais used a pair of birdies and an eagle en route to turning in the seventh par-or-better scorecard of his true freshman season, bouncing back from a 78 in Saturday’s opening round to move into a tie for 27th in the 84-man field. The Ponte Vedra High School product birdied a pair of par fours — the 411-yard second and 381-yard 16th holes — and had an eagle on the 536-yard, par-5 eighth to help him climb 27 spots in the individual race.

Meanwhile, Hunter Bott registered a two-shot improvement from his opening round with an even-par 72 on Sunday. The senior out of Montgomery, Texas, enjoyed birdies on the 190-yard, par-3 sixth and the 433-yard, par-4 17th while moving up seven spots into a tie for 18th at 2-over 146 with 18 holes left to play.

Behind Bott and Blais, the Roadrunners recorded a 303 on Sunday and are in 12th place (611). UTSA is five shots ahead of Coastal Carolina and three behind Jacksonville in the field that features seven nationally ranked squads.

Walker Franklin is in 70th (76-81—157) and David Harrison (80-79—159) is tied for 74th, while Jack Wehman is 84th.

No. 1 North Carolina has a three-stroke advantage ahead of No. 21 Alabama and 26th-ranked Ohio State in the team standings. Adam Wallin of Ohio State and Canon Claycomb are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 4-under 140.

The final round is set for Monday.
