Nine Roadrunners named to CSC Academic All-District Team

AUSTIN, Texas — UTSA has placed nine student-athletes on the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC).
 
Oreoluwa Adamson, Bashiru Abdullahi, Ingeborg Gruenwald, Sigrid Kleive, Joel McFarlane, Jemuel Miller, Dennis Phillips, Mike Roth and Maren Wilms all were recognized with a spot on the squad for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. 

Adamson boasts a 3.88 GPA as a psychology major with a minor in intelligence and security studies. A native of London, England, she is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete and a three-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and Honor Roll member. Recently voted to the C-USA All-Academic Team, she has been named to the UTSA Dean's List three times and the President's List and Honor Roll once apiece. A three-time conference champion this year, she earned a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championships long jump field after finishing seventh at the NCAA West Preliminary Round last week. Earlier this year, the indoor school record holder garnered second-team All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor.
 
Abdullahi owns a 3.5 GPA while working toward his master's degree in business after graduating with a 3.56 GPA as a multidisciplinary studies major. A two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, he recently was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team. The Benin City, Nigeria, native is a four-time C-USA Honor Roll member and has been chosen for the UTSA President's List once, Dean's List once and the Honor Roll twice. A three-time C-USA champion, he has advanced to his second straight NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 110-meter hurdles after placing eighth at the NCAA West Preliminary Round last week. He collected his sixth career C-USA medal when he raced to a runner-up finish in the 110m hurdles at the C-USA Outdoor in May and is seeking a second consecutive All-America certificate after collecting second-team accolades with a 15th-place showing last June.
 
Gruenwald totes a 3.99 GPA as a global affairs master's student with a minor in psychology after graduating Summa Cum Laude in December 2022. A two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, she recently was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team for the third year in a row. The Salzburg, Austria, native is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and Honor Roll member and she has been named to the UTSA President's List (4.0 GPA) six times and Dean's List (3.74-3.99 GPA) once. A second-team All-American in 2022, she has claimed gold at C-USA meets twice and recently collected her seventh career league medal with a runner-up finish in the long jump at the outdoor championships. 
 
Kleive has posted a 3.52 GPA and recently earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology. The Aalesund, Norway, native is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member and has landed on the UTSA Dean's List twice.  She advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the high jump in May, clearing 1.72m (5-7.75) to finish 27th. Earlier this spring, Kleive collected her second career conference medal with a third-place finish in the heptathlon after scoring 5,175 points at the C-USA Outdoor.
 
McFarlane owns a 3.84 GPA and recently earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology. The Monikie, Scotland, native is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete and he was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team for the second time in his career. A four-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient, he has made the UTSA President's List four times and the Dean's List three times. He earned a spot in the NCAA Outdoor Championships decathlon field after finishing third at the C-USA Outdoor with a career best 7,661 points, making him the program's No. 2 all-time performer. 
 
Miller has maintained a 3.71 GPA while studying business management. A 2022 USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete as a freshman and a C-USA All-Academic Team selection this year, he is a two-time member of the C-USA Honor Roll and he has been named to the UTSA Dean's List once and Honor Roll twice. The Bridgetown, Barbados, native earned All-America accolades twice in 2022, including finishing fifth at the NCAA Indoor. The school record holder indoors also struck gold in the triple jump at three of his first four career conference meets, including at the 2023 C-USA Indoor.
 
Phillips boasts a 3.62 GPA as a kinesiology major after transferring to UTSA from TCU prior to the 2022 campaign. The Little Elm, Texas, native is a C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and two-time C-USA Honor Roll member. He also has earned a spot on the UTSA Dean's List and Honor Roll. Phillips anchored the Roadrunners' 4x100m relay team to a gold medal at the C-USA Outdoor and then helped that quartet clock a 39.49 for 13th place at the NCAA West Preliminary Round and the second-fastest time in program history. Phillips earned a gold medal with the 4x4 at the 2023 C-USA Indoor and also ran on the school record-setting 4x200m relay team that clocked a 1:21.49 to vault UTSA into the 13th spot on the all-time collegiate list.
 
Roth owns a 3.66 GPA as a politics and law major. He recently was voted to the C-USA All-Academic Team and has been named to the C-USA Honor Roll and UTSA Honor Roll twice apiece. The St. Thomas, Ontario, native scored 20.5 points at the C-USA Indoor earlier this year, earning High Point Scorer of the Meet honors. He broke the school record in the 400m with a winning time of 46.42, finished second in the 200m in 21.09 and anchored the 4x400m relay to gold at the indoor meet and completed the sweep of the 400m crowns at the outdoor championships in May. He also ran on the school record-setting 4x200m relay team that clocked a 1:21.49 to vault UTSA into the 13th spot on the all-time collegiate list.
 
Wilms logged a perfect 4.0 GPA as a psychology major with a minor in marketing, recently earning her bachelor's degree. A native of Melsbach, Germany, she is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal recipient and Honor Roll member, and she has landed on the UTSA President's List following each semester of her undergraduate career. She scored points in the multi-events at both conference meets this year, finishing seventh in the heptathlon with 4,633 points at the C-USA Outdoor and eighth in the pentathlon with 3,261 points indoors. Wilms was the 2022 C-USA heptathlon silver medalist and ranks as the program's No. 5 all-time performer in the pentathlon (3,550).
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 28 (women) and June 29 (men).
