Frizell receives Conference USA Winter Sports Spirit of Service Award

DALLAS — UTSA junior Elijah Frizell has received the Conference USA Winter Sports Spirit of Service Award, honoring his significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in sport.
 
Frizell is one of 11 C-USA student-athletes from the winter sports of indoor track & field and basketball. Recipients are nominated by the institutions.
 
A native of Dallas, Frizell has been heavily involved in community service efforts since his arrival on campus. He has donated his time to help with the UTSA Day of Service Campus Beautification Project, CANtoberfest, Roadrunners Give Back, UTSA Food Pantry, San Antonio's annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March and local park clean-ups. He currently serves as Vice President for UTSA's Black Athletes Striving for Excellence (BASE) and on the UTSA Athletics Inclusive Excellence Board, and he represented UTSA at the 2022 Black Student-Athlete Summit in Houston. A C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, he also has been a member of the Roadrunner Excellence and Leadership Institute, UTSA Men of Honor and the Black Student Union.
 
On the track, Frizell is in his third year with the Roadrunners. This indoor season, he competed in three events at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational in January, clocking a 22.79 to place 15th in the 200 meters and a 52.07 in the 400m. He also ran on the 4x400m relay that finished 12th in 3:32.06. He posted an indoor season best of 52.03 in the 400m at the Robert Platt Invitational.
 
Last year, Frizell raced to a season-best time of 49.08 in the 400 meters to finish 10th in the prelims at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. He was fifth in the 400m in 50.38 at the Roadrunner Invitational and clocked a 52.14 in the 400m at the Charlie Thomas Invitational. As a freshman in 2021, he timed a career best 22.40 in the 200m at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight.
