Roadrunners register five podium finishes on Saturday at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas — The UTSA track & field teams registered five top-three finishes on Saturday at the Texas Invitational, totaling eight for the two-day meet held at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Following a pair of wins on Friday by Sigrid Kleive and Alanah Yukich, the Roadrunners added three runner-up performances from Bashiru Abdullahi, Jemuel Miller and Idol Ramon in their final tune-up for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships in two weeks.

Abdullahi turned in a narrow second-place showing in the men's 110-meter hurdles on Saturday afternoon. The senior All-American and defending league champion clocked a time of 13.71 seconds for the silver just behind Texas' Kendrick Smallwood, who crossed in 13.70. It marked his second top-two finish of the month after he sped to a winning time of 13.65 at the Cactus Cup on April 15.

Miller, a two-time All-American and reigning conference champion, also finished second among collegiate competitors on Saturday. The Barbados native skipped to a mark of 15.50m (50-10.25) to place third overall in the men's triple jump behind O'Brien Wasome, competing unattached, and Florida State's Jeremiah Davis.

In the Saturday night distance carnival, Ramon led a quartet of Roadrunners who placed in the top six in the men's 3,000m steeplechase. The Harlingen, Texas, native clocked a personal-best time of 9:31.43 for runner-up honors, just ahead of Landon Blankenship's third-place time of 9:42.02. Spencer Herbstritt and Gabe Hernandez were fifth (10:11.98) and sixth (10:12.68), respectively.

Meanwhile, the women's 4x400m relay team of Geraldy Barron, Amanda Esparza, Joy Baxter and Sarah Bell logged the other podium finish of the day, placing third with a 3:56.17 clocking.

A day after finishing as the top collegian in the 400m hurdles, Yukich turned in a career-best time in the 400m for fourth place among collegians and eighth overall. The Australian clocked a 54.19 to move into fourth on UTSA's all-time performers list and improve her previous PB of 54.50 posted on this same track at the Longhorn Invitational in March.

Madi Henry also moved into the program's top-five list on Saturday, as the senior from New Braunfels timed an 11:16.17 to finish fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase and move into fifth on the school's career performers chart.

In other action, the men's 4x100m relay squad of Antony Ma, Brice Chabot, Trevion McCalla and Dennis Phillips clocked a 39.92 for fourth place and their third sub-40-second performance of the year. Abby Balli was sixth overall and fourth among collegians in the women's 800m in 2:14.50, Sabrina Goains took fourth place in the women's 5,000m with a time of 18:55.47 and Michael Campbell finished fifth in the men's shot put with a measurement of 16.86m (55-3.75).

Gabriel Binion placed fifth overall and fourth among collegians in the men's triple jump after measuring 14.89m (48-10.25), while Oreoluwa Adamson was fourth on the women's side with a mark of 12.55m (41-2.25).

The Roadrunners will take next weekend off before traveling to Denton, Texas, for the conference meet on May 11-14.
