James tabbed C-USA Field Athlete of the Week

DALLAS — UTSA junior Dylan James has been named Conference USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

James earned his first win as a Roadrunner by claiming top honors in the triple jump at the J Fred Duckett Twilight last Saturday in Houston. The transfer from Arizona State skipped to a mark of 15.64 meters (51-3.75) to lead a 1-2 UTSA finish.

After opening the competition with a 15.17m (49-9.25) measurement to move into first place for good, James improved to 15.45m (50-8.25) on his second trip down the runway before posting his top jump of the afternoon in round four. He also finished seventh among collegians in the long jump with a leap of 7.26m (23-10).

A native of Perth, Australia, James currently ranks second in the league and 16th nationally in the triple jump with a wind-legal season-best mark of 15.98m (52-5.25) posted at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. His top legal leap of 15.55m (51-0.25), also from the Texas Relays, makes him the program's No. 4 all-time performer.

This marks the eighth weekly award for the Roadrunners this year, including the fifth during the outdoor campaign. Jemuel Miller (3/21), Jacob Jenkins (3/28) and Jack Turner (4/18) all were named C-USA Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week, while the 4x200-meter relay team of Brice Chabot, Dennis Phillips, Trevion McCalla and Mike Roth earned the C-USA Outdoor Male Track Athlete of the Week honor on April 4. Miller also collected the weekly field award indoors on Feb. 7, while Oreoluwa Adamson and Christiaan Le Roux swept the C-USA Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades on Jan. 17.

Alaba Akintola of Middle Tennessee earned the C-USA Male Track Athlete of the Week honor, while UTEP's Niesha Burgher and WKU's Katie Isenbarger won the female track and field awards, respectively. The C-USA Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.

The Roadrunners will return to action this Friday-Saturday, April 28-29, at the Texas Invitational in Austin.
