UTSA women finish fourth at C-USA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Oreoluwa Adamson collected her second medal of the weekend to help lead the UTSA women's track & field team to fourth place at the Conference USA Indoor Championships, which wrapped up on Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Less than 24 hours after striking gold in the long jump, Adamson secured the silver medal in the triple jump as one of a pair of podium finishes for the Roadrunners, who scored 75 points to register their fourth consecutive top-four league finish.

After fouling on her first trip down the runway Adamson skipped to a mark of 12.37m (40-7) to leap into second place in the field. She then improved to 12.70m (41-8) on her third attempt to solidify her place in the final. The London, England, native posted her top measurement of the day in the fifth round, touching the sand at a personal-best distance of 12.80m (42-0). She finished ahead of Rice's Ginnie Okafor (12.64m) and behind only Middle Tennessee's Esther Isa, who won the competition with a 13.08m (42-11) effort.

On Saturday, Adamson eclipsed the school's long jump standard in winning her first career conference gold medal. She leaped 6.46m (21-2.5) on her first attempt of the day to break the previous UTSA mark of 6.42m set by Ingeborg Gruenwald, who finished fourth in Sunday's triple jump with a 12.16m (39-10.75) measurement.

UTSA's other top-three showing came in the final race of the day. The 4x400-meter relay team of Ibiso David-West, Marie Duvigneau, Geraldy Barron and Alanah Yukich passed the baton to a time of 3:47.33, as the Roadrunners collected the bronze 4x4 medal in a third consecutive conference meet, including last year's outdoor championships.

Yukich also posted a pair of fourth-place finishes on the final day. The Perth, Australia, native clocked an 8.69 in the 60-meter hurdles final and then came back later in the afternoon to record a 55.51 in the 400m, finishing three spots ahead of Duvigneau, who was seventh in 56.65.

Lauren Roy also just missed a medal in the 200m final, speeding to a 24.00 for fourth.

Abby Balli crossed fifth in the mile after clocking a 4:56.74 and later placed sixth in the 800m with a 2:14.40.

In the field, Amaya King measured 15.33m (50-3.5) in the shot put to finish fourth, while Sigrid Kleive added a seventh-place clearance of 1.62m (5-3.75) in the high jump.

Charlotte captured the conference title with 129.5 points, followed by Rice (94.5) and Middle Tennessee (82) in the 11-team field.
