Adamson, Le Roux collect C-USA weekly awards

DALLAS — Oreoluwa Adamson and Christiaan Le Roux have been named Conference USA Indoor Field Athletes of the Week for their performances in the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational last Friday in Houston, the league office announced Tuesday.

Adamson leaped to gold in the women's long jump at the season opener to pick up her first career weekly award. The sophomore from London, England, measured 6.10 meters (20-0.25) on her first trip down the runway and held on for the victory just ahead of All-America teammate Ingeborg Gruenwald, who secured silver with a mark of 5.96m (19-6.75). She moved into the No. 5 spot on UTSA's all-time performers list and her league-leading mark currently ranks 16th nationally.

Le Roux also claimed top honors in the long jump on the men's side to give the Roadrunners a sweep of that event and earn his first career C-USA Athlete of the Week honor. The sophomore All-American from South Africa was in third place entering the sixth and final round after posting a mark of 7.43 meters (24-4.5) on his fourth try. Following a 7.37m (24-2.25) measurement in the fifth round, he moved into first place with a leap of 7.54m (24-9), passing Lamar's Kenson Tate (7.48m/24-6.5) and teammate Gabriel Binion, who placed third with a 7.47m (24-6.25) mark. Le Roux became the program's No. 4 all-time performer in the event with his effort and his league-leading mark currently stands 23rd nationally.

Florida Atlantic's Jessica Lambert was named C-USA Indoor Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Middle Tennessee's Alaba Akintola picked up the men's track award.

The Roadrunners will be back in action this weekend with athletes competing at the Lumberjack Team Challenge in Flagstaff, Arizona, and the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston next Friday, Jan. 20, as well as the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
