UTSA heads to Texas State for Battle of I-35

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to face Texas State in a battle of I-35 matchup on Wednesday night. Tip-off from University Events Center in San Marcos, Texas, is set for 7 p.m. (CT) and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
 
LEADING THE ROADRUNNERS
Junior Jordyn Jenkins leads the team in scoring with 89 points, averaging 17.8 per game through the first five games of the season. Jenkins also leads the team with 32 rebounds and seven steals. Redshirt sophomore Elyssa Coleman has done a phenomenal job on defense, leading the conference with nine blocks (1.80 per game), while also collecting 31 rebounds. Junior Kyra White leads the Roadrunners with 20 assists, also recording six blocks and five steals. White is fourth in the conference and 118th in the nation with a 1.82 assist/turnover ratio. Freshman Sidney Love has earned the starting point guard spot in the first five games, tied with Jenkins with a team-leading seven steals and trailing Jenkins in team second-most points scored (42).
 
UTSA is first in the conference with 4.4 blocks per game and third in the conference with a 72.5 free throw percentage. The Roadrunners have outperformed their opponents by 189 rebounds to 164 rebounds with a 5.0 rebounding margin.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Roadrunners are coming off a heartbreaker 69-64 loss to St. John's on Nov. 26, falling to an overall record of 1-4. Jordyn Jenkins led the Roadrunners with 25 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Sidney Love collected 12 points with a team-high five assists. UTSA held a 40 percent field goal advantage, shooting 25 field goals to the Red Storm's 20. The Roadrunners led in many categories, including 42 total rebounds, 25 defensive rebounds, 17 offensive rebounds, 30 points in the paint, 18 points off turnovers and 17 second-chance points.
 
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
The Bobcats have a 3-2 record after a 67-46 loss to Texas A&M on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Texas State was picked fifth in the preseason Sun Belt Conference Coaches' Poll. Da'Nasia Hood and Kennedy Taylor were named to the All-Sun Belt preseason teams. The Bobcats ended the 2021-22 season with a 15-14 record, falling to Louisiana, 71-46, in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals. 
 
The Bobcats are 11th in the nation with a 1.43 assist/turnover ratio. Texas State is also 20th in the nation with 18.0 assists per game. Tianna Eaton leads the Bobcats with 70 points and five blocks. Nicole Leff has a team-high 33 rebounds, while Kennedy Taylor has notched team-highs in assists (37) and steals (13). Taylor is sixth in the nation with 7.4 assists per game.  
 
SERIES HISTORY VS TEXAS STATE
Texas State leads the all-time series, 36-33, over UTSA. The Roadrunners and Bobcats last played on Nov. 18, 2021, when UTSA fell to Texas State, 76-62. Elyssa Coleman recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, a block and two steals, while Queen Ulabo put up eight points with eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.
