Roadrunners finish third at UIW Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's and women's cross country teams both finished third at the UIW Invitational on Saturday morning at Live Oak City Park.
 
Colton Stunkard placed fifth in the 8,000-meter run to lead three Roadrunners in the top 15 finishers and help the men take third in the team standings. 
 
Meanwhile, Madi Henry was UTSA's top female finisher for the second straight meet, crossing 10th to pace a quartet of Roadrunners in the top 20 of the women's 6k.
 
Stunkard covered the 8k loop in a time of 25:10.3 to finish fifth in the 126-man field. The transfer from Texas City was UTSA's top finisher for the second consecutive meet and he was only 40 seconds behind individual champion Enock Kimutai of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (24:29.9).
 
Jake Smith placed 10th for the men after posting a time of 25:26.0, while Spencer Herbstritt was 13th with a 25:35.0 clocking.
 
Idol Ramon was 28th overall and 26th among attached runners, crossing in 26:12.2. Caden Cunningham was the fifth Roadrunner to finish, placing 43rd overall and 39th among attached competitors with a time of 26:42.3.
 
O.J. Ruiz was 49th in 27:00.5 and Harrison Wade placed 68th in 27:49.1.
 
UTSA scored 84 points for third place in the men's 13-team race, only 11 points behind UTRGV and comfortably ahead of Our Lady of the Lake's 135. UIW claimed the team title.
 
In the women's 6k, Henry, a senior transfer from New Braunfels, clocked a time of 22:54.8 for 10th in the 110-person field to lead the Roadrunners.
 
Abby Balli and Chante Dixon were close behind their teammate, finishing 15th and 17th, respectively. Balli, a Pasadena native, clocked a 23:26.9 and Dixon, who hails from South Africa, crossed in 23:32.6.
 
Luzaan De Wit finished 20th in her UTSA debut, posting a time of 23:37.4 to put four Roadrunners in the top 20.
 
Savannah Lopez was the fifth Roadrunner to cross, covering the course in 23:49.3, while Brooke Veltman and Lily Morrill were 32nd (24:19.0) and 33rd (24:19.9), respectively.
 
The Roadrunners tallied 88 points for third, just head of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (107) and UTRGV (125) in the 14-team field won by Northern Colorado.
 
UTSA will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
