Abdullahi, Le Roux collect All-America accolades on Wednesday at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. — UTSA junior Bashiru Abdullahi earned second-team All-America honors and sophomore Christiaan Le Roux received honorable mention on Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.

Abdullahi collected the second All-America certificate of his collegiate career with a 15th-place showing in the semifinal round of the 110-meter hurdles. The Benin City, Nigeria, native clocked a time of 13.69 seconds to finish fifth in his heat, which was won by current world leader Trey Cunningham of Florida State in 13.21. His time was close behind Clemson's Devon Brooks (13.68) and just ahead of Iowa's Josh Braverman (13.72) in the 24-man field.

Abdullahi, who earned his third career Conference USA crown last month, was an honorable mention All-American in 2019 after finishing 17th as a true freshman while competing for Cal State Northridge. The school record holder at 13.52 seconds joins Patrick Prince, an honorable mention All-American with a 20th-place finish in 2018, as the only Roadrunners to earn All-America accolades in the 110m hurdles.

Le Roux picked up his first career All-America plaudit with a 22nd-place effort in the long jump. He fouled on his first two trips down the runway, leaving him without a mark with one attempt remaining before the top nine advanced to the final. The C-USA silver medalist measured 7.31 meters (23-11.75) on his third try, ending up placing ahead of Miami's Russell Robinson and Arkansas' Ryan Brown.

A native of Roodepoort, South Africa, Le Roux booked his trip to the national meet by a mere one centimeter after placing 12th with a leap of 7.69m (25-2.75) at the West Preliminary on May 25 to finish just ahead of Texas Tech's Jalen Seals and Oklahoma's Rayvon Allen. Le Roux joins Adrian Riley (2017) and Tyler Williamson (2012) as UTSA All-Americans in the long jump.

Following Wednesday's action, the UTSA men now boast 18 All-Americans who have combined to collect 29 first team, second team or honorable mention certificates.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Friday with Jemuel Miller in the triple jump at 8:20 p.m. CT. Danielle Spence is the lone Roadrunner on the Saturday schedule, as she will participate in the triple jump at 4:50 p.m. CT.
