Abdullahi strikes gold on Saturday night at 44 Farms Team Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Bashiru Abdullahi won the men's 110-meter hurdles to highlight Saturday action for the UTSA track & field teams at the 44 Farms Team Invitational at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

Abdullahi collected the second gold medal of the meet for the Roadrunners, notching his third win of the calendar year in the process. The junior from Nigeria raced to a time of 13.75 seconds with a 4.0 meters-per-second tailwind to beat Texas A&M's Connor Schulman (13.84) to the tape. The two-time Conference USA Indoor 60m hurdles champion now has broken 14 seconds in all three races at the distance this outdoor season.

It marked the second win of the weekend for UTSA, as Alanah Yukich set a meet record in the women's 400-meter hurdles on Friday night, clocking a time of 58.80 seconds to eclipse the previous meet standard of 58.84 set by former teammate Faith Roberson one year ago.

Lacee Barnes picked up a bronze medal in the women's shot put. The senior from the Cayman Islands measured 15.21 meters (49-11) on her fifth attempt of the day to log her second top-four finish of the meet. She was fourth in the discus on Friday with a mark of 46.22m (151-8).

In other action, Acacia Astwood finished fourth in the women's hammer with a throw of 50.77m (166-7), while Brooke Lomax clocked a time of 2:13.39 to place fourth in the women's 800m. Adan Hernandez posted a time of 10:01.82 for sixth overall and fifth among collegians in the men's 3,000m steeplechase and the women's 4x400m relay turned in a time of UTSA 3:52.41 for fourth in the final race of the night.

Earlier in the day, Joel McFarlane finished fifth in the decathlon despite not finishing the final event, the 1,500m. The Scotland native tallied 6,409 points through the first nine disciplines, highlighted by 947 in the 100m with a 10.62 clocking, 854 in the long jump with a leap of 7.17m (23-6.25) and 787 in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.53.

Meanwhile, Maren Wilms scored 4,826 points to place sixth in the heptathlon. A native of Germany, she entered the final day in seventh and moved up one spot after recording a long jump of 5.71m (18-8.75), a javelin throw of 30.11m (98-9) and an 800m time of 2:20.16, which was good for 821 points. She finished ahead of Baylor's Alyssa Miller (4,628) and just behind Kiara Rhodes (4,861) in the 13-person field.

The Roadrunners are slated to travel to Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. SAC Relays next Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16.
