Gruenwald, Miller strike gold at Charlie Thomas Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Ingeborg Gruenwald won the women's long jump and Jemuel Miller took top honors in the men's triple jump to headline Saturday action for the UTSA track & field teams at the Charlie Thomas Invitational at Gilliam Indoor Stadium.

Gruenwald improved her own school record and also established a new Austrian U23 indoor standard with a leap of 6.35 meters (20-10) in winning the long jump for the first time this year after a pair of runner-up showings. The defending Conference USA Indoor champion took the lead after her first trip down the runway, which resulted in a mark of 6.03m (19-9.5), and then posted two jumps beyond 20 feet before eclipsing her previous personal best of 6.22m with the record-setting jump in the fifth round to finish comfortably ahead of Samiyah Samuels (5.85m/19-2.5).

Miller remained undefeated in the triple jump in his debut campaign with his third win in as many tries. The Barbados native skipped to a season-best measurement of 15.59m (51-1.75) to move into the No. 3 spot on UTSA's all-time performers chart. He posted a 15.53m (50-11.5) mark on his first attempt to move atop the field and he registered his PB on in his sixth and final try.

The Roadrunners added to their solid showing in the horizontal jumps, as Grant Szalek placed third in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.92m (48-11.5) and Danielle Spence earned the bronze medal on the women's side after breaking the sand at a distance of 12.56m (41-2.5. Additionally, Oreoluwa Adamson finished fifth among collegiate competitors in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.68m (18-7.75) and Christiaan Le Roux took fifth for the men with a 7.23m (23-8.75) effort.

On the track, Diego Pettorossi sped to a season-best time of 21.30 seconds to finish fifth overall and fourth among collegians in the men's 200m. The Italian now stands third on UTSA's all-time performers chart just 0.07 seconds shy of the school record.

A pair of Roadrunners moved into the program's top five performers list in the women's 3,000m. Maddie Boswell clocked a 9:45.53 to place sixth and earn the third spot on the all-time list, while Abby Balli crossed in 9:51.42 for ninth place in the race and the No. 5 position in the UTSA record book.

The Roadrunners are off next weekend before heading to Birmingham, Ala., on Feb. 19-20 for the C--USA Indoor Championships.
