Roadrunners fall to Mean Green

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to North Texas 70-57 Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.
 
Jadyn Pimentel and Chantel Govan combined for 23 points but the Roadrunner couldn't overcome an early first quarter lead from the Mean Green.
 
Queen Ulabo put the first points on the board a minute into the game. North Texas hit a 5-0 run to take a 5-2 lead, but Chantel Govan hit back-to-back 3-pointers to regain the lead (8-5) with 6:05 remaining. The Mean Green went on a 7-0 scoring surge to lead 12-8 at the 3:35 mark. The Roadrunners went on a 5-4 run to finish out the quarter and trail 16-13.
 
UNT opened the second quarter scoring nine consecutive points to push the lead to 12 (25-13). Elena Blanding broke the scoring drought with a layup at the 4:25 mark to trail by 10 (25-15). UTSA was able to hit scoring surge and went on a 10-5 un to trail 30-23 at the half.
 
Govan opened the third with 3-pointer to bridge the gap to four, 30-26. North Texas then went on an 11-2 run to extend the lead (41-28) with 5:06 remaining. In the last half of the quarter, each team scored 12 points as the Roadrunners trailed 53-40 going to the fourth.
 
In the final 10 minut3es, UTSA hit an 8-2 run to close the gap to seven (55-48)  by the 7:10 mark. The Mean Green gained momentum once again and went on a 12-2 run to lead 69-52 with 1:14 remaining. The Roadrunners finished on a 5-1 run but it was enough as UNT claimed the game.
 
UTSA returns to the court on Monday at Southern Miss.

  • UTSA is now 5-16 overall and 2-8 in conference
  • Starters: Elyssa Coleman, Hailey Atwood, Jadyn Pimentel, Queen Ulabo, Chantel Govan
  • Govan led the team with 12 points and Pimentel followed right behind with 11
