Roadrunners travel to the Sunshine State this week

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team travels to the Sunshine State this week to face FIU on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. and Florida Atlantic on Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.
 
The Roadrunners enter the week 4-14 overall and 1-6 in conference after a 71-59 loss at UTEP. Jadyn Pimentel led the team in scoring with 17 points. Lapraisjah Johnson followed with 11. Elyssa Coleman had a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Johnson leads the team in scoring with 174 points, averaging 9.7 per game. Queen Ulabo leads the Roadrunners in the paint with 96 rebounds, 54 defensive and 42 offensive. Pimentel has a team-leading 42 assists and 50 steals this season. Coleman has recorded a season-high 13 blocked shots.
 
Scouting FIU
The Panthers come into the matchup 9-7 overall and 1-4 in C-USA play after a 87-66 loss to Western Kentucky on Jan. 22. Kyla Nelson leads FIU in scoring with 202 points, averaging 12.6 points per game. Emerald Ekpiteta has recorded a team-leading 111 boards, 47 offensive and 64 defensive. Tanajah Hayes has a season-leading 46 assists and 40 steals.
 
Scouting Florida Atlantic
Florida Atlantic enters the week 4-13 overall and 0-6 in conference after an 57-44 overtime loss to Marshall. Janeta Rozentale leads the Owls with 180 points, averaging 12 points per game. Rozentale also leads the team with 23 steals this season. Sofia Galeron leads Florida Atlantic in the paint with 133 rebounds this season, 35 offensive and 98 defensive. Kynadi Kuykendoll has recorded a team-leading 52 assists.
 
The Owls will face UTEP on Thursday before hosting the Roadrunners.
 
Last Meeting
This is the 16th meeting between UTSA and FIU. FIU leads the series 8-7 after a 107-103 triple overtime win on Feb. 6, 2021.
 
Florida Atlantic leads the series between the two teams 7-5. FAU is on a four-game win streak after a 79-50 win on Feb. 13, 2021.
