UTSA comes up short to Old Dominion

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team dropped a 57-46 decision to Old Dominion Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.
 
The Roadrunners couldn't overcome a strong defensive start and an early lead from the Monarchs, who forced four turnovers in the first two minutes.
 
Old Dominion opened the game on a 6-0 run to take an early lead. At the 4:41 mark, the Monarchs had a nine point lead (11-2) until the Roadrunners hit a 5-0 run to trail by four with 3:34 remaining. ODU hit another run to push the lead once more (16-7). UTSA closed out the first on a 4-2 run to trail 18-11.
 
Elyssa Coleman made a layup at 8:33 to start the second. The Monarchs then went on a six point scoring surge to lead 24-13 at the 6:59 mark. For the remainder of the quarter, the teams battled it out as UTSA outscored ODU 16-15 to trail 33-27 at the half.
 
Coming out of the break, the battled continued as the quarter opened on a 4-4 run and the Monarchs led 37-31 at the 8:08 mark. Both teams continued to hit short scoring runs and UTSA came within two once again (40-38) until ODU finished the quarter on an 8-3 run to lead 48-41 going to the fourth.
 
In the final 10 minutes, the Monarchs outscored the Roadrunners 9-5 to keep the lead and clinch the game.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday when they host at Charlotte. The new tipoff time is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
