Boswell, Smith headline UTSA action at C-USA Championships

CONCORD, N.C. — Maddie Boswell finished 11th in the women's 6k and Jake Smith placed 36th in the men's 8k to headline action for UTSA at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Frank Liske Park.
 
Boswell earned second-team all-conference honors with her performance in her first conference meet as a Roadrunner. The Fort Worth native covered the 6,000-meter loop in a time of 21:34.6. She crossed the finish line just one second behind UTEP's Carolyne Chepkosgei and three ticks ahead of Charlotte's Alina Rovnak in the 98-person field. It marked the Texas transfer's third straight meet as UTSA's top finisher.
 
Chante Dixon was the next Roadrunner to cross, placing 63rd with a time of 23:45.6, while Lily Morrill was 71st in 24:06.3. Brooke Veltman clocked a 24:37.5 for 77th and Joy Ojeda was 80th in 24:43.8. Abby Balli and Savana Alt rounded out the UTSA lineup in 81st (24:45.3) and 85th (25:06.3), respectively.
 
The Roadrunners placed 12th in the team standings with 285 points, well ahead of Louisiana Tech's 399 and close behind North Texas (250).
 
Meanwhile, Smith helped lead the UTSA men to an eighth-place finish in the team race with 239 points, two ahead of WKU (241) and just a pair of points behind Louisiana Tech (237). The Yuma, Ariz., native clocked an 8k time of 25:43.0 to finish as the top Roadrunner for his sixth straight meet dating back to last season. It also marked the second straight year that he has crossed first among UTSA runners at the conference meet.
 
Luke Lawhorn was the next-fastest Roadrunner, placing 52nd with a time of 26:46.8. Idol Ramon was close behind in 57th with a 26:58.4 clocking, while Hunter Haynes and JD Corona crossed in 61st (27:06.2) and 62nd (27:08.5), respectively. Michael Paredes was 72nd (27:38.7) and Harrison Wade took 80th (28:39.8).
 
Middle Tennessee swept the team titles ahead of runner-up Charlotte in both races.
 
The Roadrunners are scheduled to return to action on Nov. 12 when they travel to Waco for the NCAA South Central Regional.
