Boswell, Smith pace Roadrunners at Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Maddie Boswell finished fifth in the women's 6,000-meter race and Jake Smith placed in the top 75 in the men's 8k to highlight action for the UTSA cross country teams on Saturday morning at the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
 
Boswell, a senior transfer from Texas, covered the Dale Watts Cross Country Course loop in a time of 20:46.3 in her first 6k race of the season. The Fort Worth native averaged 5:34 per mile and crossed the finish line sixth overall and fifth among collegians. She was just ahead of UTEP's Ruth Jerubet (20:49.5) and close behind Middle Tennessee's Eusila Chepkemei (20:41.6) in the 267-person field won by Rice's Grace Forbes (19:53.3).
 
Chante Dixon was the second-fastest Roadrunner, finishing 132nd overall and scoring 121 points with a time of 23:06.3. Abby Balli was 174th (154) in 23:42.9, while Lily Morrill timed a 23:55.3 for 188th (164) and Joy Ojeda clocked a 24:22.1 for 205th (178) to round out the top five.
 
The women finished 22nd in the team standings with 622 points, six ahead of Sam Houston and eight points better than Tulane, while placing close behind TCU (586). Lipscomb won the team title, followed by Middle Tennessee, Abilene Christian, Texas A&M and Rice in the 33-team field. 
 
Smith was the first Roadrunner to cross in the men's 8k race, clocking a time of 24:58.5 for 76th overall and 75th among collegians. The Yuma, Ariz., native posted a 5:01 pace and was just ahead of a pair of Abilene Christian runners in the 267-man field.
 
Idol Ramon placed second among UTSA runners with a time of 26:02.3 for 153rd, good for 136 points. Luke Lawhorn was right on his heels in 158th (141) with a 26:08.9 clocking. JD Corona and Joshua Gonzalez closed out the lineup in 26:53.6 (201st/172) and 27:52.6 (232nd/192), respectively.
 
The men placed 25th in the team standings with 714 points, close behind TCU (673) and UT Arlington (652) and just ahead of Le Tourneau (729) and Tulane (736). Lipscomb captured the men's title, followed by UTEP, North Texas, LSU and Texas A&M in the 33-team field.
 
The Roadrunners will return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 30, when they travel to Charlotte, N.C., for the Conference USA Championships.
