Turner earns NCAA Outdoor Championships berth

INDIANAPOLIS — UTSA freshman Jack Turner has earned a berth to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be hosted by Oregon on June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Turner will be one of 24 competitors in the men's decathlon at the national championships. The three-time conference champion will enter the meet ranked 11th in the field with his school-record 7,659-point total from the Conference USA Outdoor Championships last week in Tennessee.

A native of England, Turner is in line to become the fifth Roadrunner to garner All-America accolades in the combined events, including the fourth in the decathlon. The 2021 C-USA Indoor Field Performer of the Meet ran away with his third career league crown by tallying 7,659 points to eclipse three-time All-American Justin Youngblood's school record of 7,642 posted in finishing seventh at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor, the top national finish in the multis in program history. Turner also collected a bronze medal in the long jump with a leap of 7.47 meters (24-6.25) at the C-USA Outdoor.

The decathlon, heptathlon and 10,000 meters will be contested at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and not at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

A dozen Roadrunners earned a spot in the NCAA West Preliminary Round, which will be hosted by Texas A&M on May 26-29 in College Station. The women will send seven athletes to E.B. Cushing Stadium, while the men have five qualifiers for the first round of the NCAA postseason.
